CBC has officially confirmed that Travis Dhanraj is no longer an employee of the broadcaster — just hours before the premiere of his new show Can't Be Censored

"Regarding Mr. Dhanraj's employment status, we have processed his resignation; he is no longer an employee of the CBC," the broadcaster told the Toronto Star

The statement comes after months of confusion and dispute. Dhanraj, a veteran journalist and former host, announced in July that he was resigning, but has consistently said he was forced to resign

CBC had previously insisted he was still "on leave," a position his lawyer argued was part of a deliberate effort to undermine him publicly. While the broadcaster has now formally accepted his resignation, the fight is far from over. Dhanraj has filed a complaint with the Canadian Human Rights Commission, alleging systemic discrimination and retaliation.

"This may close the chapter on my employment, but it is far from the end of the story," Dhanraj said. "My human rights complaint is moving forward, and I intend to hold CBC accountable for the harm it has caused — not just to me, but to others who have faced the same toxic culture."

A New Chapter: Can't Be Censored

The timing of CBC's acknowledgement could not be more symbolic. Tomorrow marks the debut of Can't Be Censored, the long-form podcast and digital platform Dhanraj co-hosts with fellow former journalist Karman Wong.

The show promises unfiltered, unscripted conversations with politicians, business leaders, cultural figures, and others often excluded from mainstream coverage. In its first episode, Dhanraj will speak directly about his departure from CBC — what happened, why it matters, and what it reveals about the state of Canadian media.

With CBC finally conceding the reality of his exit, Dhanraj and Wong are free to begin a new chapter — one that they say will deliver what legacy media no longer can: fearless conversations, without gatekeepers.
